I'm really glad I listened to this before throwing the third draft of my novel at ALL of the beta readers I have lined up. I think I'll take the advice given and try two passes - one half of the beta readers give me feedback, then I made changes if their feedback demands it and I agree - then try the rest of the beta readers on the 4th draft. Does that sound like a good way to use my beta reading pool? Thanks for the great episode!

Both can be great. I'd say a con where you're hoping to market your book or meet an agent or editor is more hit or miss. If you make the magical connection, then it's the best way to go. But there's a good chance you'll leave that event without accomplishing much. Higher whiff rate.

Superstars is one where you'll learn more about the business side of being a writer. Great advice, great inspiration. In that sense, it's a sure thing.

Hey, Dan! Thanks for stopping by. That would have been cool to see your son dressed up as Batman, and no doubt super excited to be there. I'm glad to be off of Posterous too. I had a lot of trouble uploading files too. I hope I didn't lose too many listeners in the early going because of that. Oh well, I guess.

My pleasure, Moses. And yeah, that would have been cool to hear about. If you want someone to talk to about it (I'm assuming you could on AISFP), but if not, let me know. I'm curious about the angle of continuing education for your stage of your career and how that helped and motivated you. A specific question I'd have is the value of paying for something like that over money to attend a con where you could market your book.

Just finished listening. Thanks so much for having us on! Too bad you didn't interview me a month later. I'm feeling much more on fire about my writing after the recent Superstars seminar. :-)

Hey Tim! We had a fun free comic day too! My son who just turned 4 went dressed up as Batman, and they had a guy there in a very good Batman costume, so we got a picture of them together - it was awesome! I'm so glad you switched from that posterious or whatever it was called, it seemed clunky and I noticed the .mp3s of your episodes took a long time to download for some reason. This website is simple and clean - I like it. Easy to read and navigate, which is the most important thing about web design. When I was a kid I had some Spiderman comics, and some batman comics, and I read them over and over again, but I was never a collector. Like you my comic book knowledge comes mostly from watching cartoons. When I was in art school I was turned on to one specific comic artist named Humberto Ramos who was doing the pencils for Spectacular Spiderman, and I started collecting those, but I never read them. I just looked at all the artwork over and over again. I really like the guys style. I've been hearing that he has another series going now and I've been meaning to start picking those up, but I've been so busy that it's probably something I'll do months from now. I want to pick up some comic books that have a good story too, and I've heard that Batman Year One is really good. Someday I'll snag the whole series as a paperback and read through it. Here's a link to show you Ramos's style: http://x.annihil.us/u/prod/marvel/i/mg/2/c0/4bc6a8d68bedf/detail.jpg
